I'm sure most of you know about Siblings Together - if not, take a look at this excellent post. It's a very worthwhile cause.
Over at our FQR Kinky Bee, the lovely Liz suggested that we get together and do a couple of quilts for this year's appeal. She suggested we use the Scrappy Trip block that has been making waves in the blogosphere over the last couple of months. It was decided that we would do two quilts, one for a girl and one for a boy. We are all using our own stashes, but following an agreed colour palette.
For the girl's blocks, a hot pink centre strip, then more pink, white, grey, lilac or purple and some aqua if we fancy some contrast.
The boy's blocks have a light blue centre strip, dark blue, white, grey, teal and green.
I've made four of each colourway. The plan is to mix up everyone's blocks , but I couldn't resist taking a shot of each of my four together.
These will be winging their way to Jo and Carol, who have kindly agreed to put the tops together. Other members of the group will be quilting and binding the quilts. It's always good to be able to get involved in a group project like this. Hopefully we will end up with two quilts that will make a brother and sister very happy.
I did jump on the Scrappy Tripalong train myself just after Christmas but I think I embraced the whole 'scrappy' part a bit too enthusiastically and ended up rather hating what I'd put together. I spent a sad evening unpicking the 12 (!) blocks I'd done and put all the little squares away in a bag.
I don't really know why it took me until 12 blocks to realise I was going wrong - 12 blocks represents a LOT of sewing, cutting, unpicking and sewing again. Not to mention the fact that I cut enough strips for 64 blocks....
However, doing the blocks in a more limited palette has inspired me to revisit my own mess. I'm planning on editing down my colours and starting again. At the moment I'm thinking grey, white, navy, orange, maybe a little bit of citron. What do you think?
These look fab, good work! The whole scrappy thing is a tough call, things that shouldn't go together look amazing, and things you think should be good, aren't right, good luck this time round! : )
