Rainy days

It rained all night and this morning we woke up to flooded roads and more rain. The children have the day off as their school bus couldn't get through the floods, and I've been advised by their school not to try and drive them in.  I think we'll be staying inside and keeping warm and dry today.

I've been catching up with my Bee blocks. 

In the FQR Kinky Bee, Carol asked for Japanese + and x blocks and sent us a fab mix of reds for the centre plus low volume for the surrounds.  I really enjoyed doing these and can't wait to see them all together.

We didn't have anyone scheduled in for December in the FQR bee, but Jo has some family going through difficult times so we've been whipping up some extra blocks for her to make into a quick quilt to send to them.  It's a bad nightime photo, as I was in a rush to get them packaged up as soon as I'd finished.

Plans for the rest of the week are to finish up my outstanding EPP blocks for Helen, get my Low Volume Charm Swap charms cut and baste and quilt Sam's quilt - doesn't it feel good to get things finished!

Shhh

It's all about the cushions around here at the moment.

I finished up one.

Then I made another.

Then I tried out a different colour combo.

I love them all and it makes me very happy to see them on my couch in the living room, or to have them squashed up behind my back while I'm watching TV, which is where they usually end up.

I broke out of my comfort zone of envelope backs and put concealed zips in all of them, which was actually pretty simple.  I'd link the tutorial I used, but I forgot to bookmark it and can't find it right now - but there are plenty of good ones out there.

I think I need to make a few brighter cushions now to mix in with these low volume ones.  However, I am joining in with Laura's Low Volume Charm Swap, which is rather appropriate, as it was her fab Lipari cushion that reminded me that I wanted to sew some plus pillows in the first place.  Places are filling up fast, but hop on over if you like the sound of it.
