So, I ripped it. You knew I would really didn't you?
Thanks for all your helpful suggestions and the links to Cara's tutorial, which is excellent.
However, given that I had done all the cables on that row wrong, it would have meant cutting, redoing and grafting 8 cables, plus darning in all the ends. I thought that was going a bit far, although I'm bookmarking the tutorial for use in the future.
Also, when I took a closer look at things, I realised I had also done the cable too soon and needed to add another 4 rows before the twist.
There was nothing for it but to rip. I took Tracy's suggestion of a quiet place and a glass of wine and did the dirty deed. A couple of hours and a DVD later, I'm almost back to where I was on Tuesday.
No point in any photos, as it looks almost the same as the last one, without the mistake. I'm sure it will all be worth it when it's done.
Tough to do - but you won't regret it!

I used to think frogging was the worst thing. Now I know if I make a mistake I just have to rip it and restart. Because if I didn't, I would always know the mistake was there. Bravo Mary!

I think it was good to frog. If it bothers you at all now, it will bother you more when you look at the finished item and see the mistake. You'll be much happier with the outcome this way. I can't wait to see how it turns out! Way to be a brave knitter!

Exactly what I would've done. Glad you can get on with the sweater. :)
