I think the squares are ace! The other colours combos look cool too, I think a light cotton backing would be perfect.

Love the mix of colours you have chosen and such a change from baby colours. Can't wait to see finished blanket:) what pattern are you using

Janet

Looks great and I'm sure the parents will love it! I don't envy you all that sewing up and waving of ends though. You're ambitious!

Oh I like your combos. How great to make something from stash, isn't it? I haven't done a mitered square yet but they look like fun.

Don't you wish all parents would find out the sex of their baby- or at least let the doctor tell the knitters!

I used a light wadding and a cotton backing for the blankets we made for Hugo and Seth the other year. Although it makes the end product slightly heavier it also helps hide all those multitudes of cotton ends!

Love the mitred squares, have you thought about using the Domino knitting technique for constructing them - less ends and sewing up!

The colors look great together!!

Are you going to sew all the pieces together???

allena

those colors are great! the blanket is going to look awesome. the squares are turning out pretty!

Beautiful. A backing might be a lovely finishing touch - and then maybe you don't have to overly obsess over tucking in the ends. Maybe. Keep it a light fabric, and it shoul be OK. My 2 cents.

Those are great color combos! I think a light cotton (flannel maybe?) backing would be nice, but maybe you won't be able to decide until you know the weight of the completed, unbacked blanket.

Nice! I think a cotton blanket might end up pretty heavy anyways, so I'm voting for no backing, although you'll have to see what the back looks like! Do you know have a grand plan for joining the little blocks into big ones, colour-wise, or will you just wing it? It'll be great.

They look lovely. And I don't think un-gender-biased for a newborn can be a bad thing.... ;)
