A cool drink of water

There is dust under the coffee table.  There are dirty dishes in the sink.  The laundry needs to be put away.

I don't care.  I have spent the afternoon finishing River.  I realised on Wednesday that I only had two pattern repeats left to go.  I realised this at about 12.30 at night and even though I really, really wanted to I knew it would be a very bad idea to stay up for another two hours to finish her.  I managed to get one pattern repeat done last night, thanks to an ill-advised double espresso at 9pm (Kristine - you were right).  So there was only a couple of hours left to do today.

She is 5cm wider and about 20cm longer than the specs for the KidSilk Haze version, which isn't surprising as Cherry Tree Hill laceweight is a bit thicker than KSH.  I haven't decided whether to do the elastic beaded loop or not.  I may go ahead and give it a try - I can always give it to Josie as a hair tie if I don't like the look of it.

Slow and steady wins the race

Not a lot to show today, in fact nothing to show per se.  I have been knitting but there's not much photo worthy progress for you.  One sleeve of Peridot is done.  I ended up adding quite a lot of length as 37cm was way too short.  I have added so much length that I think I may need to get a couple more balls to cover the extra, especially as I plan to add 5cm or so to the body as well.  I knew I should have listened to that little voice in my head telling me to buy 10 balls rather than 8 when I was in Peter Jones.

River is ticking over nicely too.  We spent an enjoyable evening together last night watching Wife Swap last night and I managed to get two pattern repeats done.

I am deliberately not starting any more socks so that I am forced to take the Here & There Cables scarf as my commuting project.  Not that I need to be forced to knit it but I tend to mechanically reach for the nearest sock on the go as I walk out the door.  Now I just keep the ever lengthening scarf in my bag instead.  Nothing like a bit of cable action to scare away impress other tube passengers.  Mind you, there is not an awful lot of commuting knitting going on now that I am cycling to work.  Hard to knit while cycling through the mean streets of South London, dodging buses and irate car drivers.

So that, my dears, is your lot for today I am afraid.  Not scintillating, but progressing at a smooth pace nonetheless.

Talking of scintillating, if you haven't seen this yet,  you must.  You will be amazed how much time you can spend watching animals, especially if you are knitting at the same time.  I spent 40 minutes watching 6 ostriches and a giraffe this afternoon.  For UK readers, check it out in the morning before 11am, or else in the afternoon from about 3pm until 5pm.  It's finishing in November, so make the most of it while you can.  Just don't mention the elephant in the water.
