It's been a busy week at the Wool Palace. Most days I haven't had time to get near the computer until 9 or 10 at night. Then when I get near the computer I find Toby on it. He has discovered the magic of the Internet finally, about 3 years after the rest of the family. I think we're going to have to work out some time slots for each of us to explore the magic of the Internet, or there could be serious ructions.
I'm at home today with a sick boy. It's one of those, 'maybe he's just after a day off school' sicknesses, but I figure as he kept it up for a whole hour before school, he deserves the time off for persistence alone. Also it means I get a little extra knitting time, although I'm trying not to think about all the work I will have to do when I get back to the office.
Gemma is still not sewn up. I did the neck edgings at the weekend, then gave her a Eucalan bath on Sunday. I then discovered I'd mislaid the zippered bag I use to spin my knits in (I think Toby may be been 'tidying'), so she took 3 days to dry. Hopefully I'll finish her today or tomorrow, as I have daylight time to work in.
I finally finished the stripey socks.
I had planned to rib the foot as well, but I forgot on the first one and couldn't be bothered to rip back. I'm very pleased as the stripes match almost perfectly, which is pure luck, but pleasing nonetheless. They've ended up being a bit small for me. I think this was because sock number 1 was finished in the car, grafting and all, and I played a bit fast and loose with the whole foot measuring thing. Anyway, I've given them to my big footed son, who is happy with them. So happy in fact he did a little dance while wearing them. He calls them his 'Scottish socks'. Obviously Scottish people dance a lot in Sam's world.
As I can't be without a sock, I've started another one.
My first ever toe up sock. Once I got the hang of the figure of eight cast on it was fine, although I haven't tightened it up yet, but I'm guessing it's just like tightening up grafting. I'm using a skein of Koigu I've had lying around for a while, plus some Lang Jawoll. I'm following the Stashbuster Spirals technique, from the 6 Sox KAL, but using two colours instead of three. I'm enjoying learning some new sock knitting techniques, it certainly adds interest to the whole thing. Maybe this sock will inspire me to join in the KAL properly for the next 12 months. I've been a member from the start, but this is the first pattern I've actually knitted.
By the way, do you think I should be worried that last night I had a dream about running out of Eucalan?
Mary I'm giggling now, "this is the first sock I've knitted". That's made me feel much better, I may even join in if that's the case. I didn't bathe my Gemma, am I a bad person? I can't wait to see it all together.

I feel so saintly! I forced myself to knit each sock, gets me away from 3x1 rib, and one of the patterns makes an interesting rib suitable for all of the children's charity socks (that never get posted off).
It's strange for me not to have a sock on the go, but I'm trying to knit scoop on the train, don't want any distractions.
I have to share with man and teenager but I just put my foot down and get petulant!

I take my hat off to you if you can do that figure of eight cast on. I've found it easier to do the short row toe using a provisional cast on. Lovely colours!
